Abderrahim Jourani is a Professor and Director of the Institut de Mathématiques de Bourgogne (IMB), UMR 5584 CNRS, at the University of Burgundy. He works in the Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Science and Technology, focusing on Optimization and Nonsmooth Analysis. His office is located in the Mirande Building, Wing A, Office 413 in Dijon, France.
Professor Jourani's research spans numerous areas within mathematical optimization, including metric regularity, subdifferential calculus, parametric optimization, multiobjective optimization, and dynamic optimization. His work has significant theoretical depth with applications in economics, control theory, and mathematical programming. He has made substantial contributions to understanding the geometrical and topological aspects of nonsmooth analysis.
His recent publications (2018-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on sweeping processes, subdifferential calculus of integral functions, metric regularity, and applications to optimization and control problems. The research shows progression from theoretical foundations to practical applications in stochastic control, sparse regularization, and conical constraint qualification.
- Director of the Institut de Mathématiques de Bourgogne UMR 5584 CNRS (2016-present)
- Member of the Executive Directors Committee of EIPHI University Research School (2018-present)
- Former Director of the Department of Mathematics (2007-2013)
- Responsible for the "Applied Analysis and Optimization" team at IMB (2005-2014)
Professor Jourani has supervised numerous PhD students including T. Zakaryan, E. Vilches, S. Bellaassali, and P. Bosch. He has served as an examiner or rapporteur for over 20 PhD theses across various French and international universities. His collaborative work spans multiple countries including Morocco, Chile, Poland, and the United States.
