Abdelghafar Salim is a researcher at the Professorship for Islamic Law within the Center for Islamic Theology at the University of Tübingen, since 2023. He also serves as an associate researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle (Saale).

His research focuses on the everyday pragmatics of Muslim refugees in Europe, particularly Germany. He explores how Islamic normativity intersects with legal pluralism, religious authority, and cultural adaptation. Key areas include halāl consumption, Sharia in minority contexts, and conflict resolution in Islamic and secular frameworks.
Recent publications revolve around Islamic environmental ethics, religious authority in Europe, and daily life practices of Muslims in Germany. His work bridges legal anthropology, Islamic theology, and sociocultural integration.
Salim is actively involved in academic communities, including membership in the Gesellschaft für Arabisches und Islamisches Recht (GAIR), Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft (DMG), and Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft Vorderer Orient (DAVO). He has co-organized multiple workshops on Islamic law and its intersection with anthropology.
