Dr. Abbey Diaz is a Researcher at the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research, Australian National University, focusing on Indigenous health disparities and wellbeing through interdisciplinary approaches.
Her core research integrates Health Promotion, Narrative methodologies, Tobacco Use interventions, Wellbeing frameworks, Cardiovascular Disease prevention, and Breast Cancer survivorship. She specializes in deconstructing industry narratives in public health and developing culturally responsive health strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Recent publications reveal a convergence of oncology, cardiology, and public health research, particularly examining cardiovascular risks in breast cancer patients and tobacco industry influence. Her work increasingly addresses climate change impacts on mental health systems, as evidenced by her current project on climate-resilient mental healthcare.
As Principal Investigator for the active project "Developing evidence-based responses for a climate-resilient mental health care system" (2025-2027), she leads a multidisciplinary ANU team securing external funding for mental health system adaptation to climate challenges.
Her institutional affiliation with the National Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing Research drives community-engaged research aimed at improving health outcomes for Indigenous Australians through evidence-based policy interventions.
