Dr. Abbas Rashidi is an Associate Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah, with an adjunct appointment in Electrical & Computer Engineering. His research combines construction engineering with AI/ML applications to solve industry challenges. With over 20 years of industry experience, he serves as associate editor for ASCE's Journal of Construction Engineering and Management.
His research focuses on computer vision applications in infrastructure inspection, construction safety analytics, AI-driven traffic management, and sensor-based jobsite monitoring. He develops innovative methods for culvert inspection, work zone safety, equipment tracking, and airport operations using deep learning and federated learning approaches.
Dr. Rashidi holds a PhD in Construction Engineering from Georgia Tech, dual MS degrees in Construction Management and Electrical Engineering, and maintains professional certifications including Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) and OSHA Outreach Instructor.
