Aashish Clerk is a Professor of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. Previously, he held the position of Professor at McGill University (2004–2017) and served as a Canada Research Chair. He is also an Amazon Scholar since 2022. His primary research focuses on driven-dissipative quantum phenomena in engineered quantum systems, intersecting theoretical condensed matter physics, quantum optics, and quantum information. Clerk’s work emphasizes applications in quantum technologies, including sensing, metrology, and quantum computing.
Education: B.Sc. in Mathematics & Physics (University of Toronto, 1996); Ph.D. in Physics (Cornell University, 2001). Postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University (2001–2004).
Awards: Simons Investigator in Theoretical Physics (2020), Sloan Research Fellowship (2007), Rutherford Memorial Medal (2015), E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship (2014).
Research Themes: Topological quantum states, quantum measurement back-action, optomechanical systems, quantum noise spectroscopy, and quantum control. His group collaborates with experimental teams to advance quantum technologies.
Labs/Teams: Clerk Group at UChicago focuses on theoretical and interdisciplinary research in quantum engineering. Current openings include postdoctoral positions in quantum sensing and driven-dissipative systems.
