Aarthi Vadde is the E. Blake Byrne Associate Professor of English at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. She also serves as Associate of the Duke Initiative for Science and Society. Her research bridges 20th-21st century global Anglophone literature with digital humanities, focusing on computational technologies' impact on literary culture. Co-editor of The Norton Anthology of English Literature and co-founder of the Novel Dialogue podcast, Vadde explores platform studies, postcolonial theory, and global modernisms.
Her academic journey includes roles as Director of Undergraduate Studies in English (2019-2023) and Mellon Assistant Professor. Educated at Columbia University (A.B., 2003) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (Ph.D., 2010), Vadde has received prestigious awards like the Harry Levin Prize for her book Chimeras of Form.
Current research includes a book project on contemporary literature and Web 2.0 platforms, supported by grants from the National Humanities Center. Her teaching spans courses on artificial intelligence in literature, digital media studies, and global comparative literature.
Vadde's work appears in venues like PMLA, MFS - Modern Fiction Studies, and NOVEL. She actively contributes to academic governance through roles on Duke's Academic Council and Library Council.
