Aaron Wolf is a Professor at Oregon State University’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. His research focuses on transboundary water conflicts, conflict resolution, and the intersection of water resources with geopolitical dynamics. He holds a BA in Physical Geography/Resource Management from San Francisco State University (1985), an MS in Water Resources Management (1990), and a PhD in Land Resources (1992), both from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Key research interests include transboundary water governance, shared waters conflict prevention, and institutional development in environmental policy. His work bridges technical analysis, policy frameworks, and geopolitical strategies to address water disputes globally. He teaches courses such as International Water Resource Management and Water Conflict Management & Transformation.
Wolf has supervised over 40 students, directing theses and dissertations on topics ranging from transboundary aquifers to dam impacts. Notable student projects include analyses of the Columbia River Basin, the Nile Basin, and the Mekong River. He has mentored post-doctoral scholars such as Moon Hee Kang and Lucia DeStefano, contributing to collaborative research networks.
His academic contributions are reflected in his leadership of the Water Conflict Management and Transformation initiative and his role in shaping policy frameworks for sustainable water governance.
