Aaron Sigut is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Western University's Faculty of Science and serves as a Western Space Investigator under the Earth Observation for Societal Impact domain.
- Education
- BSc, Western University (1988)
- PhD, University of Toronto (1995)
- NSERC Post-doctoral Scholar, High Altitude Observatory, Boulder, Colorado
Professor Sigut specializes in computational modeling of massive stellar spectra, focusing on OB stars and rapidly rotating Be stars that form equatorial disks through unknown mechanisms. His research deciphers physical conditions (temperature, pressure), composition, and motion via spectral analysis, and recently investigates stellar spin-axis alignment in clusters to uncover massive star formation processes. He bridges Galactic and Stellar Processes with Big Data analytics through machine learning applications for spectral analysis and studies of cooler Ae star analogues.
As an active supervisor, he currently mentors two PhD students: one developing machine learning techniques for massive star spectra and another researching Ae stars.
His work is integrated with Western Space initiatives, contributing to interdisciplinary space research and planetary science exploration at Western University.
