Aaron Shaw is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Northwestern University and a Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. He co-founded the Community Data Science Collective and holds a courtesy appointment in Sociology at Northwestern. His research focuses on participatory organizations, online communities (e.g., Wikipedia), and inequalities in digital participation.
Education: PhD in Sociology from UC Berkeley (2012). Key research interests include peer production, gig economy dynamics, and online governance. Shaw has investigated the gender gap in Wikipedia contributors and the impact of internet skills on participation.
Notable recognition: 2013 APSA Best Published Article Award for A Tale of Two Blogospheres, co-authored with Yochai Benkler. His work bridges sociology, media studies, and computational methods.
