Dr. Aaron M. Scurto is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at The University of Kansas, located in Learned Hall. His research focuses on Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering, particularly in the development and application of ionic liquids for separations, CO₂-induced processes, and thermodynamic modeling. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame (2002) and a B.S. from the University of Delaware (1997).
Research Interests:
- Development of ionic liquids for refrigerant separation and energy systems
- CO₂ applications in polymer processing and anti-solvent precipitation
- Thermodynamic and transport property characterization of fluids under high pressure
His recent work includes extractive distillation processes for high-GWP refrigerants and CO₂-induced separations for polyester upcycling. Over 50 peer-reviewed publications highlight his expertise in ionic liquids, refrigerant systems, and sustainable chemical processes. He advises students in chemical engineering and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving material science and environmental engineering.
