Aaron Cramer is a Professor and Department Chair at the University of Kentucky's Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, holding the TVA Professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His work focuses on simulation, control, and optimization of power and energy systems, with applications in electric vehicles, renewable energy integration, and fault-tolerant design.
- PhD: Purdue University (Electrical Engineering, 2007)
- BS: University of Kentucky (Electrical Engineering, 2003)
His research spans:
- Advanced axial flux permanent magnet machines for EV traction
- Smart grid control with Volt-Var optimization
- Power electronics for wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor devices
- Electric ship systems modeling and optimization
- Capacitive deionization energy recovery
Recent work trends include non-linear modeling of vernier machines, multi-period power flow analysis for shipboard systems, and chance-constrained optimization for solar PV integration. Articles also address sensorless control for coreless AFPM machines and hybrid energy storage architectures.
