Aaron Beedle

Aaron Beedle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Binghamton University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, serving as Chair of the Faculty Senate. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Calgary (2003) and a BS from Queen's University. His research focuses on muscular dystrophy pathogenesis and therapeutics, particularly dystroglycan glycosylation defects and signaling pathways in muscle regeneration. He leads a lab developing therapies for dystroglycan-related muscular dystrophies, including mTORC1 inhibitors and stem cell approaches. Beedle has pioneered tools like monoclonal antibodies for dystroglycan detection and contributed to MDA-funded preclinical studies. He teaches courses in physiology, pharmacotherapy, and integrated biological sciences. Notable awards include the University of Georgia Lilly Teaching Fellowship (2012-2014) and CTL Teacher of the Week (2016). His work has generated nearly 3,000 citations across over 50 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and book chapters.

Research Interests:

Beedle's lab investigates skeletal muscle regeneration mechanisms, dystrophin-glycoprotein complex dysfunction, and cardiac/brain involvement in muscular dystrophies. Techniques include mouse genetics, phenotyping, and biochemical analyses. Current projects target dystroglycanopathy therapies and mitochondrial dysfunction in disease models.

Teaching & Mentorship:

Coordinates PHRM 502 Foundations II, PHRM 521 Cardiology Pharmacotherapy, and PHRM 580D Healthy Lifestyle Interventions. Mentored numerous students across high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels in laboratory research.
