Aaron Becerra-Alvarez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University's College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. His research focuses on plant-management-environment interactions for integrated weed management in rice systems, with expertise in herbicide physiology, weed ecology, and agronomic applications.
- Ph.D. in Horticulture and Agronomy (Weed Science) from University of California, Davis (2024)
- B.S. in Crop Science and Horticulture from California State University, Chico (2019)
Research interests combine herbicide behavior, environmental fate, and plant interactions to optimize weed control strategies. His work addresses herbicide resistance, water-seeded rice systems, and precision weed management approaches. Recent publications examine pendimethalin dynamics, ACCase resistance mechanisms, and robotic weed control innovations.
Scientific achievements include the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences GSR Fellowship (2023) and D. Marlin Brandon Rice Research Fellow from California Rice Research Trust (2021). He contributes to the Pacific Northwest Weed Handbook through OSU Extension Communications.
Professional service includes Western Society of Weed Science Student Liaison (2022-2024) and affiliations with Weed Science Society of America and American Society of Horticultural Science. His work bridges academic research with practical applications for Oregon vegetable and rice production systems.
