معرفی
Aaron Apawu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Northern Colorado, within the College of Natural and Health Sciences. His research focuses on the neurochemical impacts of environmental contaminants (e.g., noise, solvents) on brain chemistry, with emphasis on dopamine signaling in auditory pathways and inhalant abuse mechanisms. He employs electrochemical methods, imaging, and molecular assays in rodent models to study these phenomena.
Education:
- Post-Doc in Auditory Science/Anatomy & Cell Biology: Wayne State University School of Medicine
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry: Wayne State University
- M.S. in Analytical Chemistry: East Tennessee State University
- B.S. in Chemistry: University of Cape Coast, Ghana
Research Interests:
- Neurochemical effects of inhalant abuse on dopamine pathways
- Auditory system dopamine/serotonin roles and noise trauma impacts
- Synergistic effects of chemical/noise exposures in occupational settings
His work contributes to understanding inhalant addiction mechanisms, audiotoxicity, and developing neuroprotective strategies. Ongoing efforts include MRI-compatible nanoparticle delivery systems for tinnitus treatment and exploring oxidative stress in hearing loss.
