Dr. Aamir Jamal is an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Social Work, serving as Lead of the International Social Development Specialization and Director of Global Engagement and International Partnerships. His academic journey spans a PhD in Social Work (2013), two MBAs (2002, 1996), and an MSc in Horticulture (1993).

With over 25 years in international social development, Dr. Jamal specializes in men's engagement in gender justice, violence prevention against women/girls, and Muslim youth identity formation. His community-based, decolonial, and transnational approaches have informed policies for governments and international agencies.
His research on Pashtun men's roles in gender equity, documented in his seminal book The Gatekeepers (translated into Urdu and forthcoming in Pashto), has catalyzed social movements in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Current projects like Transforming Masculinities (2023-2026) employ critical narrative inquiry across Muslim-majority nations.
