AWENENGO DALBERTO Séverine

Séverine Awenengo Dalberto is a historian and CNRS Researcher affiliated with the Institute of African Worlds (IMAF) at the Aubervilliers site. Her work bridges political history, legal identification, and postcolonial African studies, with a focus on Senegal and broader West African contexts. She actively contributes to editorial and programmatic leadership in Africanist scholarship.

• Current Roles: Co-editor-in-chief of Politique africaine; member of scientific steering committees for "Bureaucratization of African Societies" and "Identity Papers" research programs.
• Research Themes: Explores historical memory, political violence, documentary states, and citizenship dynamics through biometric systems, colonial legacies, and territorial claims.

Publications & Projects: Authored/edited 15+ works since 2003, including monographs on Casamance identity and co-edited volumes on African identification systems. Led the ANR PIAF program (2015-2021) on identity papers and coordinated international research networks like the World Social Forum initiative.

Academic Engagement: Organized major conferences on African identity papers (2018), borders (2010), and knowledge production (2009). Teaches in specialized Masters programs at University of Paris 1 and Aix-Marseille University, focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa and political historiography.
