ASH PARAMESWARAN

Ash Parameswaran is a Professor and Undergraduate Curriculum Chair in the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Applied Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (1990), an M.Sc. from the same institution (1985), and a B.E. (Hons) from Madras University, India (1982). His research focuses on microelectronics, MEMS, microfluidics, and biomedical microdevices, with applications in pathogen detection and medical diagnostics. He is also involved in advancing technologies for radiotherapy monitoring and flexible sensor systems.

Key research areas include silicon micromachining, microphotonics, and the development of microfluidic platforms for isolating circulating tumor cells and detecting hormones. His work integrates nanotechnology and biomedical engineering principles to create innovative diagnostic tools and sensors. Recent projects involve smartphone-based ELISA systems and electrical impedance-based monitoring for radiation therapy.

Prof. Parameswaran has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications, spanning topics from MEMS actuators to medical imaging systems. His academic leadership includes curriculum development and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering and health sciences. While not currently teaching, he has mentored numerous graduate students in experimental and applied research.

His technical expertise extends to antenna design and materials science, with notable contributions to self-assembled millimeter-wave antennas and flexible conductive polymer electrodes. Collaborative projects include low-cost pathogen detection systems and optofluidic biomedical imaging technologies.
