Åsa Hörnsten is a Professor of Nursing at Umeå University's Department of Nursing, where she oversees nursing education and research development. She holds a PhD in Nursing (2004), became an Associate Professor in 2012, and was promoted to Professor in 2015. Her expertise focuses on person-centered nursing, self-care in chronic diseases (particularly diabetes), and strengthening primary care through district nurse expertise.
Current research projects include:
- DIGEST, Chi2, eDIT: Exploring self-care management in diabetes and family-centered support
- PRIMVIZA: Improving primary care support for patients with atherosclerotic plaques
Dr. Hörnsten advises the National Board of Health and Welfare on primary care and has reviewed nursing education quality for UKÄ. Her clinical background spans district nursing, home care, and hospital roles.
