Ángel García Raso

Dr. Ángel García Raso is a full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), affiliated with the College of Sciences and Department of Chemistry. He has held academic and administrative roles since 1978, including Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Head of Chemistry Studies from 2004 to 2020.

His research focuses on organic synthesis, weak molecular interactions (e.g., anion-π, long pair-π), and coordination chemistry of purines/pyrimidines with d-block metals. He leads experimental work within the consolidated QUIMIBIO research group.

Teaching highlights include courses in Medical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry I for the Chemistry degree program, as well as interdisciplinary contributions to Industrial Engineering curricula. His academic career spans over 40 years at UIB, with roles transitioning from Assistant Professor to University Professor (1984–2011) and finally to Full Professor since 2011.

Administrative leadership includes serving as Secretary of the Department of Chemistry (1988–1995) and presiding over key committees like the Degree Quality Assurance Committee (2004–2020). He has directed 8 doctoral theses, 6 master’s theses, and 8 undergraduate theses, while participating in 11 research projects and a private contract with Merck, Sharp & Dohme.
