Dr Áine Clancy is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Liverpool since 2023, following roles at the University of Sheffield and a PhD in Law from Queen Mary University of London (2022). Her research focuses on anti-corruption measures, illicit financial flows, and transnational crime investigations, particularly regarding unexplained wealth orders (UWOs) and politically exposed persons (PEPs). She previously practiced as a solicitor in Ireland and the UK, specializing in finance law, and worked at the Law Reform Commission of Ireland.
Her research interests include anti-corruption responses to 'panic-driven' policies, jurisdictional challenges in transnational corruption cases, corporate vehicles as corruption tools, and financial crime investigation methodologies. She is currently finalizing a monograph on UWOs and the UK’s anti-corruption regime, to be published by Oxford University Press in 2025.
Her recent publications analyze the legal and practical limitations of UWOs, civil recovery mechanisms for criminal property, and strategies to combat grand corruption. Her work appears in leading journals like the Modern Law Review and Criminal Law Forum.
