Émilie Pinard

Émilie Pinard serves as an Associate Professor at Laurentian University's McEwen School of Architecture, teaching Design Studio and Cultural Sustainability courses. Her academic foundation includes advanced architectural training from Université Laval and international research experience through a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Her research critically examines people-environment relationships through participatory design frameworks, with specialized focus on culturally appropriate housing solutions for Indigenous communities and urban design strategies enhancing children's wellbeing in mid-sized cities. She actively collaborates with the Innu of Nitassinan and Inuit of Nunavik through the Habitats + Cultures Group to develop sustainable habitats rooted in cultural identity.

As co-researcher for the interdisciplinary "Living in Northern Quebec: Mobilizing, Understanding, Imagining" partnership, she advances evidence-based planning for northern Indigenous habitats through grant-funded community-engaged scholarship.

Pinard's work is anchored in the Habitats + Cultures Group from Université Laval, which facilitates collaborative design initiatives between academic researchers and Indigenous communities across Quebec.
