Associate Professor
Jane Klavan is an Associate Professor of English Language at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Head of the Centre for Learning and Teaching (0.8 FTE). She holds a PhD in General Linguistics from the University of Tartu (2012) and has over 15 years of academic experience in linguistics, teaching, and research administration. Her primary research focuses on corpus linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and morphosyntactic alternations in Estonian, with a focus on case systems and construction grammar. Education: PhD in General Linguistics (2012), MA in English Philology (2008), BA in English Philology (2005), all from University of Tartu Her research explores interdisciplinary approaches to language analysis, including experimental methods and digital humanities. She has published extensively on Estonian syntax, corpus-based studies, and cognitive linguistics principles. Klavan also leads national and institutional initiatives in digital humanities and language education, serving on editorial boards of journals like Cognitive Linguistics and Applied Linguistics . Her awards include the University of Tartu Teaching Award (2022) and being named among Estonia's Top 10 Lecturers (2021). She has managed research projects totaling over €200k, focusing on language modeling and educational innovation.
