Professor Kadambot H.M. Siddique is the Hackett Professor of Agriculture and Director of the Institute of Agriculture at the University of Western Australia (UWA). With over 35 years of experience in agricultural research, teaching, and leadership, he is internationally recognized for contributions to crop physiology, legume breeding, and dryland agriculture. His work focuses on crop adaptation to abiotic stresses, improving yield in cereals and legumes, and advancing conservation agriculture practices. Roles: Director of UWA Institute of Agriculture, former Winthrop Professor, and leader in establishing CLIMA and the Institute of Agriculture. Education: BSc (Ag) from Kerala Agricultural University, MSc (Crop Physiology) from ICAR-IARI, PhD (Environmental and Crop Physiology) from UWA. Research interests include chickpea improvement (valued at $600M annually in Australia), water-use efficiency in wheat, and sustainable farming systems in drylands. He has secured ~$80M in research funding and led over 1,150 publications. Collaborations span institutions like Lanzhou University (China), ICARDA, and ACIAR. Key achievements include pioneering conservation agriculture in Iraq, establishing the UWA Farm at Pingelly, and creating the first India-UWA joint PhD program. Awards include the 2024 Crawford Fund Medal and Fellowships from multiple academies.
