Prof. Dr. Jenny Slatman is a Full Professor of Medical & Health Humanities at Tilburg University's Department of Culture Studies, part of the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. Her research focuses on embodiment, medical anthropology, and the intersection of health, ethics, and culture. She holds a PhD in Cultural Analysis from the University of Amsterdam and has held academic positions at Maastricht University and the University of Amsterdam. Research Interests: Somatic practices, healthcare ethics, disability studies, phenomenology, and the cultural representation of health/illness. Key projects include 'Mind the Body: Rethinking Embodiment in Healthcare' (NWO-Vici) and 'Bodily Integrity in Blemished Bodies' (NWO-Vidi). Recent work explores self-monitoring technologies' ethical implications, embodiment in aging populations, and the role of touch in osteopathy. She has published widely on embodiment, healthcare practices, and medical humanities. Awards include the Hypatiaprijs 2024 for her book Nieuwe Lichamelijkheid and multiple NWO grants. External roles: Member of advisory boards for health ethics, research evaluation committees, and cultural initiatives. Teaching: Coordinates the Master's track in Health Humanities and teaches courses on visual culture, bioethics, and embodiment.
