Amalia Arvaniti is a Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Centre for Language Studies at Radboud University, Netherlands. She specializes in English Language and Linguistics with a strong focus on phonetics and laboratory phonology. Her research interests lie at the intersection of phonetics, phonology, and pragmatics, particularly in prosody, intonation, rhythm, sociophonetics, bilingualism, and language variation . She investigates these phenomena in both English and Greek, with a current emphasis on developing an integrated model of intonational form and function. The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on intonation and prosodic structure, drawing on experimental, phonetic, and pragmatic methodologies. Her work spans theoretical phonology and empirical phonetics, often using laboratory-based approaches to examine cross-linguistic patterns and speaker variability. ERC Advanced Grant (ERC-ADG-835263) for SPRINT project (2019-2025) Leverhulme Major Fellowship (UK, 2019-2020) Mohrmann Grant (Radboud University, 2020-2022) She leads the SPRINT project as Principal Investigator, which funds four post-doctoral researchers and supports training, dissemination, and international collaboration with scholars like Chris Cummins and Yiya Chen. Her teaching includes core courses in phonology, British English phonetics, and language variation at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She supervises Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Research Master’s theses, indicating active student mentorship. The research is conducted within the Speech Production and Comprehension Group, which employs behavioral and neurophysiological methods to study speech.
