Assistant Professor
Jordi Martorell López serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Ramon Llull University's School of Engineering (IQS), where he also leads the GEVAB (Vascular Engineering and Applied Biomedicine) Research Group. His academic career at the institution spans from undergraduate studies through doctoral work, establishing deep institutional roots. His research focuses on the development of innovative biomaterials for vascular pathologies, with particular emphasis on bioresorbable patches for aortic dissection treatment, growth-adaptive stents for pediatric coarctation, and tissue-engineered vascular grafts. His work integrates knowledge from medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computing to address clinical vascular needs. Martorell's publication record shows consistent output with multiple high-impact publications in 2023-2024 spanning materials science, biomedical engineering, and translational medicine journals. His research demonstrates strong translational focus, with several projects advancing to clinical stages including first-in-human trials for aortic dissection treatment. Principal Investigator for 12 research projects totaling over €2M in funding Active grants from Fundació La Marató de TV3, Agencia Estatal de Investigación, and AGAUR Collaborations with hospitals and industry partners for clinical translation As supervisor for doctoral students and leader of the GEVAB research group, Martorell oversees a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of chemical engineering and vascular medicine. His h-index of 11 reflects growing impact in the biomedical engineering field, with research outputs receiving increasing attention from both academic and clinical communities.
