Assistant Professor
Xianming Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Concordia University. He co-directs the Centre for Research in Molecular Modeling and holds a cross-appointment in Geography, Planning and Environment. His research focuses on environmental sources, processes, and impacts of organic contaminants, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs), PFAS, and tire-derived chemicals. Education: BSc (Peking University), MSc & PhD (University of Toronto), Postdoc (Harvard University) His work integrates passive sampling techniques, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and computational modeling to analyze chemical exposure, fate processes, and risk assessment. Recent studies include non-targeted screening, indoor air quality, and bioaccumulation of contaminants via fish consumption. Publications highlight his expertise in environmental modeling, pollutant monitoring, and policy-relevant research. He supervises MSc and PhD students and collaborates with institutions like the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Environment and Climate Change Canada. He teaches courses such as CHEM 283 (Environmental Chemistry), CHEM 312 (Analytical Chemistry), and CHEM 498/650 (Environmental Fate Modeling), emphasizing sustainability integration and practical problem-solving.
