He is also a Fellow and advisor of Clinical Medicine at Kellogg College , University of Oxford. His role involves leading research on innovative vaccines for infectious and cancerous diseases, with a focus on antigen discovery, vaccine platform development, and clinical translation. Education: BSc in Biochemistry, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt (2006) MSc in Biochemistry (Tuberculosis Immunology and Immuno-diagnosis), Ain Shams University & Statens Serum Institut, Copenhagen, Denmark (2011) DPhil (PhD) in Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford, UK (2015) Research Interests: Dr Salman’s work spans across vaccinology, immunology, molecular biology, and translational medicine . His primary focus is on the design and evaluation of novel vaccine candidates against major human and veterinary pathogens such as Plasmodium falciparum (malaria), Plasmodium vivax , SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), and Taenia solium . He employs advanced platforms including viral vector vaccines, viral-like particles (VLPs) , and other delivery systems to induce robust immune responses. His recent research also delves into gene therapy applications in ocular diseases, including retinal degeneration and autoimmune uveitis, utilizing CRISPR/Cas systems and nanoparticle-based delivery . Scientific Contributions & Patents: Co-inventor on three Plasmodium falciparum malaria vaccine patents Contributed to the development of the Oxford-AstraZeneca ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccine Lead researcher on novel P. vivax malaria sporozoite vaccine nearing GMP manufacturing Funding & Collaborations: Dr Salman serves as Co-Principal Investigator and Senior Immunologist/Vaccinologist on multiple projects funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation , European Commission , and Medical Research Council (MRC) . His collaborative network includes the Pirbright Institute , Leiden University Medical Centre , and international consortia. Professional Memberships: British Society for Immunology (BSI) American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN) Labs & Teams: Dr Salman leads the Jenner's VLP and Insectary (SRF) team and is a key figure in Professor Sir Adrian Hill’s lab at the Jenner Institute. His group integrates expertise in immunology, bioinformatics, proteomics, and vaccine manufacturing to accelerate preclinical and clinical vaccine development.
