Hugo Alonso is an Associate Professor at Universidade Lusófona and holds concurrent appointments as Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Aveiro and Researcher at the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA). His academic foundation includes a Licenciate in Mathematics Applied to Technology (2002) and PhD in Applied Mathematics (2008), both from the University of Porto, where he received the best graduating student award. His research program spans: Core methodologies: Statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning techniques Applied domains: Dynamical systems analysis, system identification, and control theory Emerging applications: Consumer behavior modeling, economic forecasting, and biomedical systems Analysis of his publication history reveals an evolution from foundational work in neural networks and control systems (2007-2015) toward contemporary applications in economics and consumer behavior (2020-present), demonstrating adaptability across disciplinary boundaries while maintaining mathematical rigor. His scholarly contributions have been recognized with: Top Teacher Award 2023 from Universidade Lusófona Best graduating student award in Mathematics Applied to Technology (2002) As an active peer reviewer, he has evaluated submissions for prestigious journals including IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Neurocomputing, and Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine. His research is conducted through CIDMA at the University of Aveiro, focusing on interdisciplinary applications of mathematical modeling.
