Erika Nurmi, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (David Geffen School of Medicine) within the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. She serves as Medical Director of the UCLA Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program and Associate Director of the Psychiatry Residency Research Track. Her research integrates genetics, neuroimaging, and pharmacogenomics to investigate childhood OCD, tic disorders, autism, ADHD, anxiety, and substance abuse. Key collaborations with James McCracken (UCLA) and Edythe London (UCLA) on pharmacogenomic and neuroimaging studies Active participation in the ENIGMA-OCD Consortium for global neuroimaging research Leverages machine learning for treatment outcome prediction in OCD Focus on CYP2D6 genotype effects on brain structure and methamphetamine use Explores microbiome-bile acid interactions in antipsychotic side effects Her publications span 2014-2025 , emphasizing GWAS , polygenic risk scores , and neuroimaging biomarkers . Recent work includes machine learning models for CBT response prediction, ENIGMA Consortium connectomic analyses, and pharmacogenomic studies of psychiatric medications. She contributes to clinical guidelines, including the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium recommendations for atomoxetine therapy. Current research examines genetic moderators of treatment response in ADHD and autism, gene-environment interactions in anxiety disorders, and neuroinflammatory markers in substance abuse. As a member of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) , she bridges genomic discoveries to clinical applications through interdisciplinary teams and training programs.
