Senior Lecturer
Dr. Govinda Poudel is a Senior Lecturer at the Mary Mackillop Institute for Health Research, Australian Catholic University (ACU), Melbourne. He is an interdisciplinary academic with a strong background in computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and neuroimaging, focusing on brain health and neurological disorders. His research expertise lies at the intersection of AI and advanced neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG), where he develops computational models to understand brain network alterations in conditions such as Huntington's disease, traumatic brain injury, and sleep disorders. He has pioneered methods for mapping neurodegeneration spread and enhancing brain connectivity modeling through machine learning. PhD, University of Otago, New Zealand BE (First Class Honours), University of Technology Sydney (UTS) His research has led to over 85 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and approximately AUD 0.5 million in research grants. The recent publications reflect a consistent focus on brain network modeling, neurodegeneration prediction, and multimodal neuroimaging, with increasing use of machine learning and graph theory in understanding brain dynamics. Dr. Poudel has been recognized with several scientific awards: Hereditary Disease Foundation USA Fellowship Endeavour Australia Research Fellowship ECR Fellow Publication Prize, Monash University Young Biomedical Engineer Award, Engineers Australia He is an active HDR Supervisor (Full accreditation) and has contributed to research grants from organizations including the Hereditary Disease Foundation, Monash University, and the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund. He has collaborated extensively with interdisciplinary teams across the University of Sydney, Monash University, and the New Zealand Brain Research Institute. Dr. Poudel is involved in editorial roles, currently serving on the editorial board of BMC Biomedical Engineering and previously for SLEEP (2014–2017). He is a senior member of IEEE and contributes to public engagement through the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine - ANZ.
