Dr. Hillie Aaldering is a Visiting Fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Organization Sciences. She is also part of the Research Programmes - Social Sciences, Organization & Processes of Organizing in Society (OPOS) and the Network Institute. Her research focuses on understanding cooperation in group settings, particularly intergroup and intragroup dynamics, negotiation strategies, and conflict management. She has developed experimental paradigms to measure parochial and universal cooperation. Additionally, she explores student self-regulation and how to enhance academic motivation. Dr. Aaldering teaches quantitative research methods and supervises master’s theses in the BCO master program. She is a project researcher in initiatives like 'The Power of Words: The Role of Mediators' Language in Increasing Intergenerational Empathy in Online Discussions.' Her work spans experimental and qualitative methods, contributing to fields such as social psychology and organizational behavior. Education: Doctorate in Social Sciences (PhD) Her research interests include intra-/inter-group conflict, negotiation, social dilemmas, and experimental games. Recent articles highlight topics like prosocial behavior toward future generations, dovish/hawkish influences in negotiations, and servant leadership in religious contexts. She coordinates bachelor theses and teaches courses on cooperation, conflict, and research methods. Current grants include projects on mediating intergenerational empathy through language. Dr. Aaldering collaborates with institutions like the Amsterdam UMC and VU Research Portal, contributing to interdisciplinary studies on organizational dynamics and conflict resolution.
