Lecturer
Dr Julia Bohlmann serves as a Lecturer within Academic Services at the University of Glasgow, based at the Learning and Teaching Development Centre (LTDC) in Southpark House. Her role encompasses developing and delivering academic support resources, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the experience of international students and promoting inclusive pedagogies. She actively contributes to the university's strategic priorities in learning and teaching, as evidenced by her regular participation in the Annual University of Glasgow Learning and Teaching Conference and collaborations with colleagues across the institution. Dr Bohlmann's research program is centered on critical approaches to learning development in higher education. She investigates the complexities of interculturality in the international classroom, identifying barriers and developing practical interventions such as the "International Students' Starter Pack". Her work on decolonising the curriculum has gained prominence, particularly through her involvement in the Decolonising the Curriculum Community of Practice. Additionally, she has pioneered the use of podcasting as an innovative pedagogical tool, especially during the pandemic, to build online study communities and foster student engagement. Her research also extends to reflective writing practices and their implementation in summative assessment. A review of Dr Bohlmann's recent scholarly output (2021-2025) indicates a clear trajectory toward addressing systemic inequities in higher education. Her publications increasingly focus on decolonisation, social justice, and the amplification of student voices, particularly those of international students. She combines theoretical insights with practical resource development, as seen in her work on reflective writing surveys and cultural inclusivity metrics. The interdisciplinary nature of her research bridges educational theory, critical race studies, and digital pedagogy, making significant contributions to the field of learning development. Within the University of Glasgow, Dr Bohlmann is a key member of the Learning and Teaching Development Centre. She co-hosts "The Pluriversity Podcast", a platform that discusses diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, and actively participates in the Decolonising the Curriculum Community of Practice. Her collaborative projects, such as the Reflective Writing Survey and Resource, demonstrate her commitment to evidence-based practice and institutional improvement.
