Ariaan Purich is a Lecturer at Monash University's School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment. Her research focuses on coupled ocean-atmosphere-sea ice interactions in the Southern Hemisphere, particularly Antarctic and Southern Ocean climate variability. She investigates drivers of recent sea ice trends and climate model responses to Antarctic meltwater projections. Ariaan co-chairs the CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel and contributes to the Southern Ocean freshwater release (SOFIA) initiative. Education: MSc in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (McGill University), PhD in Climate Science (UNSW), BSc Chemistry and BEng Environmental Engineering (University of Western Australia). Her postdoctoral roles included positions at CSIRO and ARC initiatives. Research interests include atmosphere-ocean-ice interactions, coupled climate modeling, and Antarctic climate dynamics. Notable projects include主持 the ACCESS-NRI Ice Sheet Modelling team (2025-2028) and research on Southern Ocean sea ice trends. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action and sustainable development. Key collaborations involve international teams analyzing Antarctic climate processes and ENSO impacts. Recent publications explore El Niño influences on Antarctic mass balance, sea ice variability, and Southern Ocean teleconnections.
