Senior Lecturer
Dr. Renjie Zhou is a Senior Lecturer in Geochronology and Tectonics at the School of the Environment, University of Queensland , where he leads the UQ Thermochronology Lab and serves as an affiliated member of the Centre for Geoanalytical Mass Spectrometry. His research focuses on advancing Plate Tectonics through geochronology, thermochronology, and micro-analysis, with applications to critical mineral systems and geologic hazards. Key Research Themes: Plate boundary evolution, critical minerals, Himalaya-Tibetan Plateau dynamics, New Caledonia ophiolites, and multi-system geochronology. Teaching: Delivers introductory and advanced courses in geoscience, including SCIE4000 research training. His work integrates field, laboratory, and computational approaches to study plate-margin mountains and basins, with active projects in NW Himalaya, Central Andes, and Southeast Queensland. He has supervised multiple PhD and MPhil students and collaborates with industry and government partners. Scientific Awards Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellow (2019–2025) Dr. Zhou's recent publications highlight applications of U-Pb dating, isotope geochemistry, and mantle metasomatism in subduction zones. He actively seeks students for 2025 projects in critical mineral fingerprinting and paleogeographic reconstruction.
