Saleha Khumawala serves as the Robert Grinaker Professor of Accounting at the C. T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, where she also holds leadership roles as Executive Director of the Dakri Center for Economic Inclusion and Founding Director of the SURE℠ Program. A Certified Public Accountant (Texas) and Chartered Global Management Accountant, she has directed University of Houston Study Abroad Programs to India since 2002 and actively contributes to nonprofit governance through board service with Pennies for Education and Health. Her educational foundation includes: Ph.D. in Accounting, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1978) Dr. Khumawala's research expertise centers on Governmental Accounting , Nonprofit Accounting , and Social Entrepreneurship . She pioneers frameworks for nonprofit financial reporting and municipal financial management, with particular focus on regulatory impacts and governance structures. Her work bridges theoretical accounting principles with practical social impact initiatives through community-based programs. Analysis of her publications (2007-2016) reveals consistent emphasis on public sector financial transparency, nonprofit governance mechanisms, and regulatory compliance. Key thematic threads include municipal risk management practices, nonprofit executive compensation structures, and the reliability of tax-exempt organization disclosures. Her community engagement extends to advising multiple Houston nonprofits and securing partnerships with business thought leaders to drive urban renewal. She directs the Dakri Center for Economic Inclusion and SURE℠ Program, which create synergistic partnerships between University of Houston students, corporate executives, and community entrepreneurs to develop socially conscious business leaders while addressing economic disparities.
