Associate Professor
Clinton Wood is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering within the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas. He holds a Ph.D. and is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) specializing in geotechnical earthquake engineering. His research focuses on soil dynamics and nondestructive material characterization using stress waves and electrical resistivity. Dr. Wood earned his educational credentials from the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas: Ph.D., Civil Engineering, University of Texas (August 2013) M.S., Civil Engineering, University of Arkansas (May 2009) B.S., Civil Engineering, University of Arkansas (May 2007) His primary research interests include dynamic site characterization using surface wave methods, topographic effects for earthquake ground motion, pavement characterization, AC water distribution pipe evaluation, levee assessment, and site response for highway structures. Dr. Wood established the Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering Laboratory at the University of Arkansas in 2013 after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin. Analysis of his publication record from 2018-2023 reveals consistent focus on seismic site characterization techniques across multiple international locations including New Zealand, Mexico, and the Mississippi Embayment region. His work demonstrates expertise in surface wave methods, electrical resistivity applications, and site-specific ground motion analysis, with practical applications for dam safety, levee assessment, and infrastructure resilience. Dr. Wood actively recruits both graduate and undergraduate students for research positions in his laboratory.
