Cian Ó Dúill serves as Head of Department for Orchestral Studies and Lecturer in Viola at the Munster Technological University (MTU) Cork School of Music, while also maintaining a teaching position at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. A Cork-born violist, he holds both MA and BMus degrees and has developed a distinguished career spanning performance and academic leadership. His research interests focus on viola performance techniques, chamber music interpretation, and period instrument practices. Ó Dúill's expertise bridges historical and contemporary performance traditions, with particular emphasis on string quartet repertoire and orchestral training methodologies. As a performer, Ó Dúill has established significant collaborations with leading ensembles including the Irish Chamber Orchestra (current member), London Mozart Players (former co-principal viola), London Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He has performed concertos by Bach, Telemann, Mozart, Bruch and Hindemith across Ireland, UK, Spain and Greece. His chamber music career includes founding membership in the Regent String Quartet and Rothko String Trio, with current performances in the period-instrument Giordani String Quartet and Prism Ensemble. He has collaborated with renowned artists including Anthony Marwood, Finghin Collins, Jörg Widmann, and Natalie Clein at major festivals such as West Cork, Aldeburgh, and Kilkenny Arts Festival.
