Marina Viktorovna Kotova is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) in Moscow. She also serves as the Academic Director of the Postgraduate School of Psychology and is a Senior Research Fellow at the Research and Educational Laboratory of Psychology of Social Inequality. Dr. Kotova has been working at HSE University since 2008, with 18 years of scientific and teaching experience. Dr. Kotova earned her Candidate of Psychological Sciences degree from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2009, with a specialization in Social Psychology (19.00.05). Her dissertation focused on "The degree of freedom of group choice as a factor in the emergence of ethnic prejudices." She received her specialty in Psychology from the same university in 2005, with the qualification of "Psychologist." She has completed numerous advanced training courses, including programs on cross-cultural research, teaching methodology, and statistical analysis. Dr. Kotova's research focuses on social psychology, particularly examining prejudice, social identity, intergroup relations, and multiculturalism in the Russian context. Her work investigates how social and psychological factors influence intergroup attitudes and the maintenance of prejudice, often through cross-cultural comparisons. She has made significant contributions to understanding how ethnic and social identities function in post-Soviet societies and how these identities relate to acceptance of multicultural policies. Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the transformation of prejudice into implicit forms, ingroup projection phenomena, and the relationship between social identity and intergroup attitudes. Her research often employs cross-cultural methodologies and examines how historical and socio-economic contexts shape psychological processes related to identity and prejudice. Her work bridges theoretical social psychology with practical applications in understanding contemporary social issues in Russia and post-Soviet spaces.
