Research Fellow
Anna Elisabet Jonsson is a Research Fellow at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Section of Metabolic Genetics, within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She holds an MSc and PhD, having graduated from Lund University in February 2011 with a thesis titled "Genetic Variants and the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes" conducted at Lund University Diabetes Centre under Professor Leif Groop. Her research focuses on genetic epidemiology of metabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes. Key interests include: Genetic predictors of diabetes development Mechanisms of genetic risk in metabolic disorders Incretin hormone regulation in diabetes pathogenesis Statistical analysis of population data Meta-analyses of genome-wide association studies Her work employs advanced statistical methods to investigate genetic influences on metabolic pathways. Jonsson's recent publications (2019-2025) demonstrate strong focus on: Genetic determinants of metabolic traits Host-microbiome interactions in metabolic health Pediatric metabolic disorders Population-level genetic studies with frequent publications in high-impact journals including Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, and Diabetes Care. She maintains active collaborations through the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center and international consortia. Her work has been disseminated through 64+ research outputs including journal articles, conference abstracts, and preprints.
