Senior Lecturer
Dr. Clare Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education (Chemistry) at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. She holds a PhD in Analytical Atomic Spectrometry from the University of Strathclyde and has a diverse academic background spanning analytical chemistry research and secondary education. Her career includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Centre (1995), Lecturer positions at University College Cork (1995-2002), and secondary school teaching experience in Lanarkshire. Since 2019, she has led science education programs while maintaining her research in analytical chemistry. Clare's research interests bridge Analytical Chemistry (with a focus on atomic spectrometry and trace metal analysis) and Science Education (particularly chemistry pedagogy, gender awareness in STEM, and school-university partnerships). Her recent work examines practical chemistry delivery in Scottish secondary schools and gender inclusivity in teacher education.
