Assistant Professor
Michalina Janiszewska serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, leading the SR-MM-JANISZEWSKA LAB focused on unraveling intratumor heterogeneity in aggressive brain tumors. Her research bridges molecular oncology and clinical translation to address therapy resistance mechanisms. Her academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the University of Lausanne (2012), a Master's in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Wroclaw (2007), and a Bachelor's in Biotechnology from the same institution (2005). Prior to her current role, she completed postdoctoral fellowships at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (2012-2016) and CHUV-Lausanne University Hospital. Dr. Janiszewska's research spans Cancer Biology, Tumor Heterogeneity, Glioblastoma, Breast Cancer, and Precision Medicine. Her lab investigates how subclonal cancer cell populations interact with the tumor microenvironment to drive disease progression, with emphasis on spatial transcriptomics, epigenetic regulation, and immune modulation. She employs single-cell and spatial analysis techniques to dissect tumor complexity. Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in glioblastoma heterogeneity (2023-2025), EGFR/CDK4 co-amplification dynamics (2023), and PIK3CA-related therapeutic vulnerabilities (2024). Her work consistently links molecular alterations to clinical resistance patterns across brain and breast cancers. She currently manages three active grants: Principal Investigator for 'Oncofetal protein as a therapeutic target in pediatric brain tumors' (FL DEPT OF HLTH LIVE LIKE BELLA, 2024), 'Scott R. MacKenzie Foundation Final Grant' (UF FOUNDATION, 2023), and Project Manager for the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant (2022). The SR-MM-JANISZEWSKA LAB operates from the University of Florida Scripps Biomedical Research campus in Jupiter, FL, with a mission to decode tumor ecosystem interactions for developing novel brain tumor therapies. The lab emphasizes translational approaches to convert heterogeneity insights into clinical strategies.
