Barbara Fogarasi is a Junior Research Fellow and lecturer at the Environmental Psychology Lab within the Institute of People–Environment Transaction at Eötvös Loránd University. Her work focuses on the psychological dimensions of cultural heritage preservation, built environment perception, and community-driven revitalization projects. Her research explores how people interact with historic buildings and sites, emphasizing the cognitive and emotional dimensions of heritage valuation. Key projects include the Nivegy Valley Parish House rehabilitation and participatory restoration studies demonstrating heritage's impact on social well-being. Fogarasi's recent work (2021-2024) examines expert vs non-expert perceptions of historic environments, revealing semantic frameworks shaping heritage interpretation. Earlier studies (2007-2017) investigated Transylvanian garden histories and rural heritage management strategies. Her lab focuses on integrating environmental psychology principles into cultural heritage conservation practices, advocating for community-embedded approaches to preservation.
