Professor
Giuseppe Donati is a Professor in Biological Anthropology at Oxford Brookes University, affiliated with the School of Law and Social Sciences. He specializes in primate conservation, focusing on lemur behavior, ecology, and conservation strategies in fragmented habitats. His work integrates long-term field studies in Madagascar, particularly in the Tsitongambarika and Sainte Luce regions, to inform conservation policies and protected area management. Donati co-leads research on lemur activity patterns, dietary adaptations, and their roles in seed dispersal, while actively collaborating with the IUCN Lemur Specialist Group and local communities to address anthropogenic threats. Research Interests Donati’s research emphasizes primate responses to habitat degradation, including studies on cathemerality (day-night activity), dietary flexibility, and the impacts of human activities on lemur populations. He explores how primates adapt to fragmented landscapes and climate change, with a focus on lemurs’ ecological roles in forest regeneration. His work bridges theoretical ecology and applied conservation, prioritizing community engagement and sustainable management practices. Advising & Grants Donati supervises numerous graduate students investigating primate behavior and conservation. Notable grants include a £13,539 award from The Leakey Foundation (2022–2024) to study activity pattern evolution. He collaborates with NGOs, consultancies, and international organizations to translate research into conservation action plans, particularly for critically endangered lemur species. Labs & Teams He is a member of the Nocturnal Primate Research Group and the Centre for Environment and Society (CES) at Oxford Brookes. His fieldwork operates from the Ampasy Research Station in Tsitongambarika Protected Area, emphasizing transdisciplinary approaches to biodiversity preservation.
