Han Olff is a Professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen, leading the Olff group focused on Community and Conservation Ecology. He holds significant roles in conservation organizations, including Chair of the Scientific Council at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and the NWA route Environmental Quality. His research explores ecosystem structure, plant-animal interactions, and ecological theory, with applications to nature conservation globally. Research interests center on diverse ecosystems, from temperate to tropical, emphasizing experimental approaches and theory development. Key areas include biodiversity loss mitigation, wetland restoration, and coastal conservation. Recent projects involve the Wadden Sea, East African rangelands, and the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem.
