Jason Sadler is a Professor and Principal Research Fellow in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton. He specializes in geospatial technologies and web science applications for environmental challenges. As a member of the GeoData research group and Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, his work bridges spatial data infrastructure with practical environmental solutions. Research Focus Professor Sadler's research explores the intersection of geospatial technology, semantic web applications, and environmental science. His primary interests include: Developing spatial data infrastructure (SDI) frameworks Creating web-based environmental decision support systems Semantic web applications for geospatial data integration Open-source geospatial solutions and laboratory development Coastal resilience modeling and risk assessment tools Transportation infrastructure geospatial analysis Publication Trends Sadler's recent publications (2021-2024) focus on transportation geospatial applications, including active travel infrastructure modeling and rail network risk assessment. Earlier work (2010-2018) established foundations in semantic sensor webs for environmental monitoring, coastal flooding applications, and disease mapping through human mobility patterns. His research consistently demonstrates innovative integration of web technologies with geospatial science. Research Projects Notable projects include: Flowminder Infrastructure (2018-present): Developing geospatial infrastructure for population mobility analysis Routable Active Travel Infrastructure Networks : Creating pavement network datasets for active transportation planning Coastal Resilience Portal : Web-based platform for exploring coastal vulnerability concepts GeoSRM : Online geospatial safety risk model for UK rail networks EU-funded projects including SemsorGrid and REMCap focusing on sensor networks and semantic technologies
