Associate Professor
Rishi Prasad serves as an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences within Auburn University's College of Agriculture. His statewide responsibilities cover critical agricultural sectors including Agronomic Crops, Animal Sciences & Forages, Commercial Horticulture, and Poultry through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Based at 240 Funchess Hall, he maintains direct engagement with Alabama's agricultural community through research, outreach, and educational programming. Dr. Prasad's research centers on sustainable nutrient management with particular emphasis on phosphorus dynamics and environmental protection. His work addresses biochar applications for runoff mitigation, poultry litter management strategies, cover crop integration, and greenhouse gas reduction in agricultural systems. This research directly responds to Alabama's environmental challenges by developing practical solutions that balance crop productivity with water quality preservation and soil health enhancement across diverse farming operations. Analysis of his 2025 publications reveals a concentrated research trajectory focused on phosphorus management innovations, particularly through biochar applications and manure handling techniques. His studies systematically investigate nutrient loss mechanisms under simulated rainfall events, soil phosphorus saturation thresholds, and integrated approaches combining cover crops with precision nutrient application. This body of work demonstrates a clear commitment to developing science-based, field-applicable strategies for Alabama producers to maintain agricultural viability while minimizing environmental impacts. As an Extension Specialist, Dr. Prasad actively translates research findings into actionable guidance for farmers and stakeholders across Alabama. His work involves extensive field trials, laboratory analysis of soil and water samples, and collaboration with the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station and USDA agencies. He maintains regular communication through office (334) 844-3922 and mobile (334) 734-4937 contacts, with email correspondence directed to rishi.prasad@auburn.edu.
