Maria Margarida Teixeira Custódio dos Santos is Assistant Professor at the University of the Algarve's School of Management, Hospitality, and Tourism, where she directs the Postgraduate Course in Digital Marketing and coordinates the Tourism, Territories and Environment Research Line at CinTurs Research Center. She has been faculty since 1999, progressing from Assistant to Professor Adjunto (Assistant Professor) rank in 2012. Her research focuses on sustainable tourism development, destination competitiveness, and senior tourism. Recent work examines circular economy applications in accommodation sectors, sustainable business events, and destination monitoring systems. She leads the MONITUR project for Algarve tourist destination observation and participates in the Research Center in Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being. As co-founder and co-editor of Tourism & Management Studies journal since 2005, she has hosted multiple TMS International Conferences. Her industry background includes 8 years with German airline LTU and 4 years with tour operator TUI, providing practical insights for her academic work.
