Associate Professor
Dr. José Daniel Muñoz Frías is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics and Automation, Higher Technical School of Engineering (ICAI), Universidad Pontificia Comillas, and a member of the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT). He earned his Electrical Engineering degree (1991) and PhD (2002) from the same institution. His expertise spans digital systems design, computer architecture, motor drives control, and embedded systems for control applications. Dr. Muñoz Frías has been actively involved in research and development projects since 2002, focusing on bioengineering, smart grids, and medical devices. Education: B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (1991), Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (2002), both from Universidad Pontificia Comillas. His research emphasizes practical applications, such as regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces, quasi-wireless neurophysiological monitoring systems, and smart home grid management. Key publications include studies on embedded systems for railway communication, RFID technology, and high-frequency magnetic field generation. He has received awards, including the ICAI Best Final Degree Project (2023-24) and the Cross4Health Hackathon Award (2019). Dr. Muñoz Frías has led or collaborated on over 35 projects, including Myoelectric Orthoses with Implantable Electrodes and AgroMaster IoT-based farm systems. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, combining embedded systems, control theory, and biomedical engineering. He has also contributed to academic publications, conference presentations, and textbook authoring in digital electronics and programming.
