Associate Professor
Christopher Stein serves as an Associate Professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), part of the City University of New York system. He teaches web design, UX, and introductory multimedia courses in the Department of Media Arts & Technology. Additionally, he holds significant administrative roles as Director of User Experience for the CUNY Academic Commons and Director of the BMCC OpenLab. His educational background includes a BA in Psychology from Yale University and an MPS in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University, providing him with a unique interdisciplinary perspective that bridges psychological understanding with technical expertise. Professor Stein's research interests focus on the intersection of technology and education, with particular emphasis on Multimedia, Human Computer Interaction, Programming, Collaboration methodologies, Group dynamics, Teaching with Technology, Design principles, and Web Development. His work explores how digital tools can enhance learning experiences while addressing practical constraints faced by educators. He is actively engaged with the CUNY academic community through multiple groups including the Critical AI Literacy Interest Group and CUNY Learning Mindset Modules Group, where he participates in discussions about motivation, pedagogy, and educational technology implementation. Professor Stein has contributed extensively to the discourse on educational technology through his blog since 2009, covering topics such as screencast feedback methods, open educational resources, digital reading innovations, and learning management systems. His work demonstrates a consistent commitment to improving teaching practices through thoughtful technology integration. His technical expertise spans multiple platforms including WordPress, GitHub, JavaScript, and various digital research tools, which he leverages to support both his teaching and administrative responsibilities across the CUNY system.
